Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy something through one, this site earns a commission. It costs you nothing extra.

That is the short version, and it is disclosed on every page that carries such a link, above the link rather than buried at the bottom.

An affiliate link is an ordinary link with a tracking code attached. If you follow it and buy something, the retailer pays a percentage of the sale to whoever sent you. The price you pay is identical to what you would pay going direct.

Following one usually sets a cookie in your browser so the retailer can attribute a later purchase. Those cookies are set by the retailer, not by this site. The privacy policy covers this.

Programs

This site participates, or intends to participate, in affiliate programs run by retailers and manufacturers of off-grid power equipment. These currently include or are expected to include Amazon Associates and direct programs from equipment manufacturers such as Renogy, Battle Born, EcoFlow, Bluetti, Victron Energy, and Goal Zero.

Where this site is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, it earns from qualifying purchases.

Commission rates vary a lot between programs. Direct manufacturer programs typically pay several times what Amazon pays on the same category of product. That is a real incentive to steer people, and it is worth being explicit that it is not how this site operates.

The rules followed here:

  • Recommendations are based on specifications and suitability, not on what pays best. Where a cheaper or lower-commission product is the better choice, that is what the page says.
  • Products are not recommended solely because a program is available. Sometimes the right answer is equipment this site earns nothing from, and that gets said.
  • Links are not added to a page unless the product genuinely belongs there.
  • Nobody pays for placement. Sponsored reviews, paid links, and paid inclusion are not accepted. Unsolicited requests to review or link to a product are declined.
  • Criticism is not withheld. If a product this site links to has a real flaw, the page says so.

If you would rather not use the affiliate links, search for the product directly. Nothing on this site is hidden behind one.

Prices and availability

Prices, specifications, and availability change constantly and are not controlled by this site. Any price shown is what it was when the page was last checked, and the page states that date. Confirm the current price and specification with the retailer before buying.

FTC compliance

This disclosure is made in accordance with the United States Federal Trade Commission’s guidance on endorsements and testimonials, which requires that a material connection between a publisher and a seller be disclosed clearly and conspicuously, in a place a reader will see before acting on the recommendation.
